Why she is cool: “It’s Cool2Care" is UNRIC’s CoolPlanet2009 global campaign slogan; the sound track incorporates voices from the USA, Croatia, Malta, Serbia, Jamaica, Haiti, Honduras, and France. In their native language the refrain is: "The planet is getting hotter and hotter; we all have a responsibility; it's Cool to Care." The composer and engineer is Brenda Ray, a location film audio engineer living in New York. Her creative focus revolves around languages, voices, and world rhythms.
"Reversing global warming is about every living being's mutual right to survive. If I can't see the well being of people in Mumbai linked to my own well-being in New York, or the starvation and demise of wild animals linked to the web of life of which I am a part, then I'm not as cool as I can be."
Cool facts: Her recent audio installation, "World Voices Project" (www.worldvoicesproject.org), incorporates over sixty languages reading the U.N.'s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
