COP 11 in Montreal
At the COP 11 in Montreal the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol met for the first time, parallel to the Conference of the Parties to the Convention. The United Nations Climate Change Conference was the largest intergovernmental climate conference since the Kyoto Protocol was adopted in 1997.
Over 40 decisions were made and two operation trading systems were agreed upon: the pan-European emissions trading scheme and the Clean Development Mechanism, a tool to promote sustainable development and combat climate change.
