Dive into the dark corners and save energy!
Un-insulated pipes in the attic or basement, chargers not being used but left in sockets, electronics on stand-by? These are all sneaky energy wastrels found in homes, offices and schools that can be easily dealt with and can result in major energy and money savings.
On Friday 13 February, the annual ‘Slip on a Warm Sweater Day’ will be celebrated across Belgium with the aim to encourage people to save energy and cut emissions trough simple, every-day changes.
The day, now being held for the fifth time, is a campaign from the Environment, Nature and Energy Department of the Flemish Government. The campaign also promotes energy-smart activities, such as using energy-saving light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs and a thick sweater to compensate for a thermostat set a degree lower. Lowering the thermostat by one degree, according to the campaign, means a 7% decrease in energy used for heating and therefore a lower heating bill.
Everyone who registers to take part will also have a chance to win energy-smart prizes.
