One million more trees for Flanders
Tuesday, 03 February 2009 16:13
As part of the UN’s aim to plant 7 billion trees worldwide, the Flemish Forests Association in Belgium has set its own goal of 1 million trees. Flanders is very densely populated, so part of the challenge is finding the right land – but with the help of landowners, corporations and local governments the association firmly believes that the target isn’t out of reach.
Its website, called 1 Miljoen Bomen voor Vlaanderen, is part of a wider campaign to get people involved, and Flemish citizens register their tree-planting efforts and a live tally is kept online. Check out the progress here.
