Green Awards for environmental cinema
Monday, 27 April 2009 00:00

The “Green Award” is like an “Oscar” for environmental cinema. The competition has four categories: feature length films, medium length films, short length films and audience awards. This year, there are over a hundred films participating from all over the world. Films shown at the festival include both fictional and documentary films, as well as children’s cinema.
The first edition of the “Green Award” was carried out in 2006 in the city of Goiás, Brazil, during the FICA Festival. In 2007, the international prize ceremony was held in Italy, during the 10th Cinemambiente festival. In 2008, the 3rd edition of the EFFN Green Award was given within the framework of the 15th International Environmental Film Festival of Barcelona, Spain.
Ecofilms is organized in Greece every year in June and the festival is a co-founder of the Environmental Films Festival Network (EFFN). EFFN is the world’s largest association of film festivals related to environmental issues. It was established in 2002 as a joint effort by three environmental film festivals in Italy, Spain and Greece.
