”Snail mail” creates awareness
Thursday, 14 May 2009 14:52
Now you can raise awareness about climate issues by sending your friends ”snail mail”. National postal administrations around the World have created special climate stamps in support of the environment.
There are many ways to create awareness about climate issues. Recently several countries around the world have published special climate stamps to raise awareness on Global Warming.
In the Faroe Island two climate stamps, designed by the artist Edward Fuglø have been produced. The Faroese stamps, distributed by Postverk Føroyar, are made in association with some 40 other national postal administrations around the world as a part of an international postal awareness campaign on the effects on global warming. The theme of the campaign is “Preserve the Polar regions and Glaciers.”
The campaign is also part of the International Polar Year 2007-2009, which is dedicated to raising awareness of the fragile state of the Polar Regions and Glaciers in this era of global warming.
The international stamp campaign is coordinated by the Itella’s Philatelic Centre in Finland and countries that are participating include France, Greece, Azerbaijan, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Peru, New Zealand, Latvia, Belgium and many more.

The Danish postal administration has also published special COP15 in connection to the UN Climate meeting in Copenhagen in December. The COP15 stamps feature sustainable energy sources and are the Danish postal administration’s contribution to making people aware of the important meeting in Copenhagen - not only among Danes, but also worldwide as many companies send a lot of mail abroad each day.
