Heads of state, environmentalists and climate experts from across the globe will gather in the Norwegian city Sarpsborg this week to prepare for the negotiations for a new climate deal in December and discuss climate solutions. The CC9 conference, which can be followed live (http://www.bellona.no/subjects/CC9 - live webcast) on the internet, aims to promote green technology and funding and to show the importance of investing in environmental friendly technology, both for the economy and for creating new jobs.

The conference will highlight the importance of including developing countries in the climate negotiations and to make new green technology available for all regions of the world. It will also encourage countries, which have had the greatest economic benefits from fossil fuel, to take the lead in cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Participants include Prime Minister of Norway Jens Stoltenberg, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., José María Figueres, former president of Costa Rica and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Niger Aïchatou Mindaoudou. The conference will be opened by Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, and his wife Crown Princess Mette-Marit will also be attending.

On the 5 June the conference will end with the “Childrens Climate Festival” where there will be activities for children to raise their knowledge on environmental issues with competitions and games. The winner of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Alexander Rybak, will also give a performance at the festival.

The event is organized by The Club of Madrid, The Bellona Foundation and Hafslund ASA.
