Be part of the Global Climate Week – 21-25 September
Friday, 11 September 2009 10:30
Starting Saturday 19 September, the weekend leading up to the Global Climate Week, you can be part of the action to encourage world leaders to seal a fair and effective climate agreement at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this December.
Global Climate Week is about uniting efforts to call for urgent action to combat climate changes. More than 100 cities around the world will mark the Global Climate Week by organising synchronised activities, and cities, organisations, groups and individuals are encouraged to mobilise their networks, get involved, and take part in these activities.
Here, we have collected some ideas for you on how to get involved:
Saturday 19 – Global Tree Planting Day:
The Global Climate Week is kicked off with tree planting. Each tree planted during Global Climate Week is meant to symbolise a direct call for political action on climate change.
Go online and register how many trees you plan to plant and where, and be part of the Clean up the World activity and contribute to the UN Billion Tree Campaign.
Sunday 20 – Climate Petition Day:
As we need as many people as possible to sign the Climate Petition calling for world leaders to seal a fair and effective climate deal in December, Sunday is about organising public events or online activities to encourage as many people as possible in every corner of the world to sign the Climate Petition. If you are in Brussels, come meet us and sign the petition at the Central Station.
Visit our Wall or Facebook group and invite all your friends!
Monday 21 – Climate Change Assembly Day:
As part of the Seal the Deal! Campaign, young people from around the world will hold peaceful assemblies in support of global action to combat climate change. By presenting the Climate Petition and the Youth Statement to their national and local authorities, young people will add their voices to the global chorus.
Find an event near you by checking our website or Facebook group!
Tuesday 22 – Seal the Deal! Go Green Day
Tuesday Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hosts a high-level summit in New York. In order to show solidarity and encourage world leaders to Seal the Deal! on a new global climate change agreement, this is a day to wear green, do something green or dress your city in green. Or even better, make your own Seal the Deal! t-shirt and wear that. Find out how by clicking here.
Wednesday 23 – Go Climate Neutral Day
