350 – The number you need to know
Wednesday, 21 October 2009 08:50

Did you know that as in parts per million, 350 is the level that scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere? A group of writers, scientists and activists around the world have made 350 the target and the symbol of where we need to head as a planet.
As part of the International Day of Climate Action on October 24 they invite you to be part of their international campaign - 350.org.

The campaign is dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis - the solutions that science and justice demand. In order to unite the public, media, and political leaders behind the 350 goal, the campaign is harnessing the power of the internet to coordinate a day of action. The campaign wants to emphasize that in order to meet the severity of the climate crisis, a new global treaty on climate emissions must pass the 350 test.
350.org hopes to have actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world. More than 3000 actions in around 150 countries are registered so far. People are encouraged to incorporate the number 350 for their community event, and then upload a photo of their event to 350.org webpage. 350.org will collect the images and deliver them to the media and world leaders.
Wondering what to do? Use your imagination! 350.org is an open-source campaign, where your ideas, input, and energy is what will make October 24 and this movement for change a success. You don’t need to use all your resources - it can also be small, simple and easy. The website gives you advice on how to plan an action, ideas on what you can do and an overview of the various actions being organized all over the world.
