Why she is cool: Katie Paterson’s unique work of art, first displayed at the Slade School of Fine Art in London in 2007, invited people to dial a mobile phone number to listen to the cracks and groans of melting ice. Paterson placed an underwater microphone inside the Jökulsárlón lagoon - an outlet glacial lagoon of the Vatnajökull glacier on Iceland – which was connected to an amplifier and a mobile-phone, creating a live phone line to the glacier.
Cool facts: Katie Paterson is a young Scottish artist. Among other works is Earth-Moon-Earth which consists of a recording of a radio transmission in which she sent two musical classics; Beethoven´s Moonlight Sonata and John Cage´s 4.33 minutes of silence from the Earth to the Moon and back in Morse code.
