UNFCCC Executive Secretary: “The transport sector needs to dramatically change direction through the production of smart and efficient cars, trains and ships.”
In a speech to the Ministerial Conference on Global Environment and Energy in Transport, Yvo de Boer stressed that growing demand for fossil fuels and vehicles was incompatible with the urgent need to combat climate change. He said that rescue packages for the auto industry during the current recession must be linked to a clear and strong commitment by the industry to produce clean and fuel-efficient vehicles.
