Climate scientists trying new experiments to reduce effects of global warming
Thursday, 12 November 2009 09:55
By covering parts of the Greenland glacier with blankets, scientists are examining how this can contribute to hamper the melting ice. The blankets will reflect the sunbeams and keep temperature down.
Climate researcher Jason Box has come up with the idea. Glacier lakes in the outskirts of the Greenland glaciers are like magnifiers, increasing the frequency of melting ice. According to Box, covering the surrounding areas with blankets will help reduce the lakes.
The blanket experiment is part of several projects where a team of scientists are trying out new ideas to reduce the effects global warming.
The team can be followed through the new programme called “Project Earth” on Discovery Channel, premiering on November 14.
