Cool Globes Copenhagen
Friday, 13 November 2009 13:34
On 13 November the international climate exhibition Cool Globes, consisting of 28 globes weighing more than a ton each, opened in Copenhagen. The aim of the exhibition is to combine a cultural experience with examples of how we can each make a difference for the climate.
The main exhibition of Cool Globes Copenhagen can be seen at Kgs. Nytorv, where 14 of the globes are placed. The rest can be seen in metro stations all over Copenhagen.
“Cool Globes is first and foremost an artistic and very visual journey through the many ways we can come together to solve the climate challenges,” says organizer Lars Thordahl to Danish daily Jyllands-Posten. He adds that the aim of the exhibition is to motivate thoughts and conversations about climate change, which in the end will hopefully turn into concrete actions and ideas on how we can all help the climate.
Concrete messages
It is not about everyone doing everything - it’s about everyone doing something. This is the mantra of Cool Globes, and therefore, each of the large globes is decorated to emphasise a certain message. The artistic message is followed by a short text explaining how you as an individual can help get the climate back on track.
The Cool Globes can be found on the following metro stations: Vanløse, Flintholm, Frederiksberg, Forum, Nørreport, Kgs. Nytorv, Christianshavn, Islands Brygge, DR- Byen, Bella Center, Ørestad and the airport.
Cool Globes is a non-profit organisation funded in Chicago in 2007 by Wendy Abrams with the purpose of bringing into focus solutions to global warming. Wendy Abrams is an environment activist and a worried mother of four. In consideration of her kids’ future, Wendy Abrams felt that it was necessary to get the ball rolling and inspire the outside world to make small changes in their everyday life. Wendy Abrams is part of the Clinton Global Initiative. She developed the Cool Globes Together with 72 volunteers.
