VINYL RECORD BOWL
This bowl is really simple to form out of an old, useless vinyl record. If you find records from your older siblings or your parents, remember to check that they don’t have too much of sentimental value before you start the process!
Method 1
Heat the oven up to around 100°C. Place your record on the center of an upside down pot or metal bowl and place it on a baking sheet. Put everything into the oven and keep a close look – the vinyl disk will start to flop in 4-10 minutes.
When the melting starts, take the disk out of the oven. If you like the shape already as it comes, you can just wait for the plastic to cool down! This will take some 15 minutes.
If you still want to change the form of the bowl, hand mold it after you take it out of the oven; you can for example put it into a glass bowl and press it into the wanted shape.
Method 2
Another way to make a round bowl is to put the disk on top of a round bowl that is only slightly smaller than the disk. Place a heavy can or a tin on the disk, and put the bowl on a baking sheet and everything in the preheated oven as described in method 1, at around 100°C.
Take everything out of the oven when you're satisfied with the depth and shape of the bowl. Let the bowl cool down and use it – but beware, your friends may want to learn the trick from you as well!
