In Maremma the International Festival of Solidarity and Ecology

XXI° edition

 

In August 2009 from the 7^th to the 16^th of August the neighborhoods of the Park of Maremma (District of Grosseto, Tuscany) host the XXI edition of Festambiente, the International Festival of Ecology and Solidarity ofLegambiente, the most known Italian Environmentalist Association.

 

The Festival is set in the area of the National Center of sustainable Development of Legambiente, where the National Center for the Promotion of Renewable Energies is also located, whose purposes are to spread new technologies for alternative energy, from the little domestic systems to the big industrial ones (where they are compatible with the environmental requirements), to provide correct information to the citizens and to encourage public administrations, businessmen and banks to invest in the installation of renewable energy systems. 

 

The National Center for the Promotion of Renewable Energies  and the Italian National Federation of Cooperative Credit agreed on a plan of distribution of cut rate loans. This agreement has already led to the installation of thousands of systems all around Italy, with millions of Euros invested. It proved that renewable energies are a concrete reality that can contribute to satisfy the Country's energetic needs and to create a dynamic and worthy business.

 

The many experiences and national campaigns, that commit Legambiente over all the fields of contemporary environmentalism, make of Festambiente the biggest European Festival that deals with environmental themes, with the purpose of popularizing the culture of ecology and sustainability, by spreading messages and good practices and by proving that eco-compatible styles of life improve everyday life's quality and contribute to save the planet from pollution and climate changing emissions.

 

In 30000 square meters dip into the green and prepared on purpose, Festambente is an ecologic village where you can find stalls of the private and public companies leader in low environmental impact productions; artistic and thematic exhibitions dedicated to the nature to the eco-compatible styles of life, to the international cooperation and to the great environmental disasters, in order not to forget and to recollect memories for the future; debates on the main themes of contemporary environmentalism with big names from politics, culture and associations; big shows with national and international artist who perform on the central stage and help to get the environmentalist messages of the Association through; the civil commitment in the schedule of the Clorofilla Film Festival and at the Civil Theater kermesse that, for several years has been giving room to Italian authors excluded from the commercial distribution; games and educative fun at the City of Children, where the educators of Legambiente entertain the young guests with courses of environmental education and where every night the most progressive acting companies perform in shows on ecologic themes; healthy, biologic and high quality food served at the two restaurants (the one vegetarian and the other dedicated to typical Italian food) and at the other bars where biological products are prepared according to traditional receipts.

 

Some number to let you know us better: 130 stalls for expositions, 250 volunteers and partners, almost 400 sponsoring companies, more than 150 speakers, more than 100 performing artists, 70 events of wine and food tasting, 20 dishes served everyday at the Italian biggest vegetarian restaurant, more than 50 films among short films, long films and documentaries.

 

The main theme of this XII edition is climate change and planet fever, for an energy policy that may develop efficiency, promote sustainable styles of life, improve renewable energies, say NO to nuclear power.

 

There are many ways to spread to the public the importance of saving, energy efficiency and of alternative energies, for a Better Possible World.

 

Festambiente hosts an area for expositions dedicated to the presentation of prototypes of energy saving and renewable energies: aeolian, photovoltaic, solar and thermal; an interactive exhibition that presents solutions for sustainable housing and the high energy efficiency house; many meetings every night with the companies leader in the field and experts of energetic efficiency that will show the newest technologies applied to the renewable energies.

 

This year the central stage of Festambiente, thanks to Ecoluce, takes advantage of a system that  uses solar energy to reduce to zero the environmental impact during concerts and shows. The system consist in a set of solar panels placed over the stage that transform solar energy in electric power, reducing to zero CO2 emissions, without any burden for the environment for a better and more ecologic future.

 

The Festival adopted concrete solutions to reduce its own environmental impact, joining for several years to the campaign Azzero CO2, that neutralizes the discharges that modify the climate in the atmosphere, by planting trees in the areas that need reforestation. Moreover, thanks to Region Tuscany, the festival's emission will be monitored in real time together with the relative compensation of the amount of the CO2 produced by the planted trees. This is a way to show openly the commitment in favor of the environment in this moment of great crisis for the planet.

 

Festambiente is a concrete example of “good practice” thanks to the collections of items for recycling, the usage of technologies that improve water saving and solar panels, thermal and photovoltaic for the partial satisfaction of hot water and electric power needs of the Festival.
