Why he is cool: As Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC since 2006, Yvo de Boer is the top UN Climate official. The UNFCCC stands for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, often referred to as the Kyoto-protocol. It is the declared aim of the UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen to adopt a new climate convention to succeed the Kyoto-protocol.
Cool facts: Before joining the UNFCCC, Mr. de Boer was a top official in the Dutch Ministry of the Environment.
He has been involved in climate change policies since 1994 and helped prepare the position of the European Union in the lead-up to the negotiations on the Kyoto Protocol.
